If you are looking for a very special one-of-a-kind type of gift for any occasion there is a shop you should visit. It is the Northeast Medical Center Hospital (NEMCH) gift shop. The gift shop is run by the hospital auxiliary. “Crystal is our best seller,” said Pat Pittinger, manager of the gift shop. The gift shop also carries beautifully decorated live plants, unusual jewelry, baby gifts, lamps, clocks, framed art, figurines, collectable angels and much, much more. The gift shop is also proud of carrying a special selection of gifts just for men. Among the beautiful and diverse selection of gifts one can find the usual selection of magazines, candy, books, greeting cards and sundries. “At Christmas time I always come here to get special gifts,” said Joan Kleypas, a regular patron of the hospital gift shop. Gift shop sales are down several thousand dollars over last year. This concerns the auxiliary because profits from the merchandise purchased at the hospital gift shop goes directly towards scholarships for local students, the Foundation at NEMCH and the hospital’s annual fall fundraiser gala’. The gift shop is located in the main lobby of the hospital. It
is open every day but Sunday. Hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri. On Wed. they are open 7:30 to 4:30 pm. Sat. the hours are 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
The hospital auxiliary is always looking for good volunteers. If you are interested in donating your time there is a place for you with the Northeast Medical Center auxiliary. Call Lisa Blonquist at the volunteer office: 281-540-7854. “Many people who know of this gift shop come here regularly to get that special gift. They always say, the hospital gift shop is Humble’s best kept secret,” added Pittinger. Volunteer JoAnn Giba shows off one of the many beautiful items found in the hospital gift shop.
