Are you a student in the Spring ISD?

If interested, come to the Spring ISD Career Expo on September 20-22, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Geiger Performing Arts Center at Westfield High School. The Spring ISD Career and Technology education department will be hosting a three-night career information expo. Each evening will feature a different career cluster. Industry professionals will be available to speak about their occupation and answer questions regarding the various career choices in their field.

Medical, biotechnology and environmental sciences will be the focus on September 20. Technology careers, such as, engineering, computer science, robotics graphic, art, media technology will be featured on September 21. Education, law, culinary, finance, police, auto repair, and business will be the topic on September 22. Professionals, both local and from out of town, will be speaking at the expo.

The list of speakers includes a dentist, veterinarian, IT specialist, chef, engineer, animator, police officer, architect, conservationist, bank manager and many others. “We want students to explore the available choices and the many possibilities in making a career choice while still in high school. Students today need to be prepared for the future before they graduate,” said Teresa Dossman, CATE director.

In addition to the career expo there will be break-out sessions each night to present information about the Spring ISD Academy at Wunsche, which will open in the fall of 2006. Applications will be taken from students October 3-31 for the 2006-2007 school year.

“The Academy, open for 10th to 12th grades, will integrate career exploration with academics. It will provide students an opportunity to see the relevancy of their studies to their career choices.” Dossman explained. For young people seeking information on making a career choice for the future, the place to be September 20-22 is Westfield High School, 16713 Ella Blvd.
